Data of 580,000 SIA customers compromised in cyber attack
This did not affect passwords and credit card information, Singapore Airlines said.
A cyber attack on international IT company SITA has affected 580,000 customers of Singapore Airlines (SIA).
In a press statement, the flagship carrier said SIA was informed of the data breach involving its passenger service system (SITA PSS) servers. This mainly affected those who avail of the benefits from the PPS club and KrisFlyer miles programmes.
“Around 580,000 KrisFlyer and PPS members have been affected by the breach of the SITA PSS servers. The information involved is limited to the membership number and tier status and, in some cases, membership name, as this is the full extent of the frequent flyer data that Singapore Airlines shares with other Star Alliance member airlines for this data transfer,” SIA explained in a statement, adding that this did not involve passwords, credit card information and other customer data.
Whilst SIA is not a customer of SITA PSS, the breach was made possible though its membership in Star Alliance, which has it sharing a restricted set of information with 26 other member airline companies.
SIA maintains that none of its IT systems have been affected by this breach.
