Ministry of Transport launches $500m OneAviation Resilience Package
The package is comprised of three key components.
The Ministry of Transport has launched its $500m OneAviation Resilience Package to boost the recovery of Singapore’s aviation sector for financial years 2022 and 2023.
The total amount allocated for the package will be divided into three key components: (i) manpower support; (ii) cost relief and support for public health safeguards; and (iii) industry and workforce transformation support.
For manpower support, the government has set aside $60m.
“Aviation companies will receive wage support via an extension of the Aviation Workforce Retention Grant for six months, covering 10% of wages paid to local employees from April to September 2022 (up to a cap of S$4,600 of gross monthly wages per employee),” the MOT said.
Under the cost relief and support for public health safeguards component, the government will “extend rebates on fees and charges payable by aviation stakeholders at Changi Airport and Seletar Airport for six months in the first instance; and continue to defray the cost of implementing public health and safe management measures at the airport. A total of $390m has been allotted for the implementation of measures under this component.
Lastly, the government has set aside $50m to provide support for companies’ innovation and productivity, and workforce transformation initiatives through the Aviation Development Fund (ADF).
“The aviation sector plays a crucial role in ensuring Singapore’s position as a global trading and business hub. It supports economic linkages and enables people-to-people flows with the rest of the world. Therefore, it is critical that we continue to support companies and workers in the sector so that we can emerge stronger, and reclaim Changi’s status as an international aviation hub,” Transport Minister Relations Mr S. Iswaran said.
