Australia’s biggest airline is setting up an Asian unit with cabins “better than the A380s” to snatch passengers up from Singapore’s flag carrier.
A Bloomberg report said, “The move may add to pressure on Singapore Air, whose main flying unit made a loss in the fiscal first quarter on competition from budget airlines and Middle Eastern carriers.”
Qantas Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce, according to the report, said the new carrier will have a private-jet feel as the cabins are planned to be more luxurious than those on the Airbus SAS A380s.
