Scoot's first two aircraft now have names
Wonder why it has to be "Goin’ Scootin" for the first aircraft and "Barry" for the other?
Following a Facebook campaign that generated close to 10,000 submissions, Scoot, Singapore’s newest airline, has selected the names for its first two aircraft.
“The response was fantastic, and yielded a huge variety of potential names. After much deliberation, the first aircraft to fly will bear the moniker Goin’ Scootin’, which conveys the informality, spontaneity and movement of the name Scoot itself,” said Campbell Wilson, Scoot’s CEO.
The name adopted for the second aircraft reflects a little more of Scoot’s whimsy and unconventionality. “A surprising number of folks suggested the name Barry, so who are we to argue. Our second aircraft will henceforth be known as Barry… or presumably Bazza to our Antipodean guests when it’s operating on our Australian routes.”
The name competition continues Scoot’s tradition of including the community in building the airline, which started with its tagline, continued with the products to be offered for sale onboard and helped determine its launch fares. The first to submit the names chosen, Australians Matthew (Goin’ Scootin’) and Kathleen (Barry) have each won a pair of tickets on the aircraft bearing the name they proposed. We’ve also decided to award Barry, who proposed Bazza, a pair of tickets for good measure.
The Boeing 777-200 aircraft, which have just completed heavy maintenance, interior retrofit and painting at SIA Engineering Company’s facilities in Singapore, will enter service on 4 June to Sydney, and 12 June to the Gold Coast. Thereafter, Barry will join Goin’ Scootin’ to other destinations including Tianjin and Bangkok in months to come.
