SIA Group sees a 2.7% MoM decrease in passengers in January

On a year-on-year comparison, however, the passenger count increased fourfold.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Scoot carried a combined 2.6 million passengers in January, representing a 2.7% decline from December, but a four-fold increase from January 2022.

The group’s passenger load factor (PLF) also dropped in January, declining 2.8 percentage points MoM to 86.9%. SIA and Scoot posted monthly PLFs of 85.9% and 90.4%, respectively.

The group’s cargo operations also saw lower figures in January. Its cargo load factor was 51.8%, or 24.2 percentage points lower year-on-year, whilst its loads (freight tonne-kilometres) declined by 24.8% year-on-year due to weaker cargo demand.

On the flip side, the group’s capacity (capacity tonne-kilometres) expanded by 10.2%.

In January, SIA and Scoot resumed services to Guangzhou and Balikpapan, respectively.

By the end of the month, the group’s passenger network covered 112 destinations in 36 countries and territories.

SIA and Scoot served 77 and 88 destinations, respectively.

Meanwhile, its cargo network comprised 117 destinations in 38 countries and territories.
