SIA rolls out more flights to Japan, India as air travel demand rises

Its capacity will be around 81% of 2019 levels by year-end.

To deal with the pent-up air travel demand, Singapore Airlines Group (SIA) increased its flights to Japan, India, Los Angeles, and Paris.

From 24 July 2022, SQ634 to Tokyo (Haneda) and SQ638 to Tokyo (Narita) will become daily services. 

Together with the daily SQ12 service from Singapore to Los Angeles via Tokyo (Narita), SIA will also operate three daily services into the Japanese capital, rising from 14 flights per week. 

The daily SQ636 service to Tokyo (Haneda) will return on 30 October 2022, raising Tokyo to 28 weekly services.

Flight SQ618 from Singapore to Osaka will be restored on 30 October 2022, bringing services between Singapore and Osaka twice daily. 

The SQ656 service to Fukuoka will rise to three flights per week. With the thrice-weekly service to Nagoya, SIA will run 62% of its pre-pandemic capacity to Japan by 30 October 2022.

The flag carrier will operate 17 weekly services to Chennai, a growth from the 10 flights per week. Kochi air services will soar to 14 times weekly, up from seven flights per week. 

Bengaluru services will rise to 16 times weekly, up from seven flights per week. 

SIA also seeks to fully operate to its pre-COVID-19 capacity in India by 30 October 2022.

Starting 30 November 2022, SQ36 will run as a daily non-stop flight to Los Angeles, which is in addition to the daily SQ38 service. 

SIA will operate 21 weekly services to Los Angeles, including the daily one-stop service through Tokyo (Narita) from 17 flights per week.

It will also operate four daily flights to Tokyo, two daily flights to Osaka, three weekly flights to Fukuoka, and three weekly flights to Nagoya.

The airline will run five weekly flights to Ahmedabad, 16 weekly flights to Bengaluru, 17 weekly flights to Chennai, twice daily flights to Delhi, daily flights to Hyderabad, twice daily flights to Kochi, daily flights to Kolkata, and 16 weekly flights to Mumbai.

Starting December, SQ332 will offer flights five times weekly from Singapore to Paris from three times weekly service.

“Paris will be served with 12 weekly flights, up from seven flights per week,” SIA said in a bourse statement.

Apart from this, SIA will continue its thrice-weekly SQ48 direct service to Vancouver in the Northern Winter operating season.

Revenge travel plans continue to spike as SIA has so far served 1,705,200 passengers in May 2022, a 1,325% increase from May 2021.
