SIA says goodbye to Abu Dhabi and Athens

Singapore Airlines will be suspending services to the two cities due to the sustained weak performance of both routes.

The airline announced that the last flights to both cities will depart Singapore on 26 October 2012. The suspensions, according to SIA, are in line with their policy to match capacity to prevailing market demand.

SIA said that customers holding confirmed tickets issued prior to 16 May 2012 for travel to and from Abu Dhabi and Athens after 26 October 2012 will be eligible for refunds, without administrative fees or penalties.

This also applies to KrisFlyer redemption tickets, and efforts will be made to contact affected customers to offer alternative travel options.

Meanwhile Singapore Airlines will continue to serve Dubai in the UAE. Connections to and from Athens are also possible on Star Alliance partner airlines via several of SIA’s other European points.
