
SIA's October passenger capacity plunges 89.9%
Passenger carriage crashed 97.8%, resulting in a PLF of 15.6%.
Singapore Airlines recorded a 89.9% YoY plunge in group passenger capacity, with overall passenger carriage plummeting 98.1% leading to a 68.6pp YoY drop in group passenger load factor (PLF) to 15.8%, according to a press statement.
SIA’s capacity was 87.9% lower compared to last year, with a skeletal network in operation that connects Singapore to 32 metro cities, up from 30 in September with the addition of Dhaka and Johannesburg.
Passenger carriage crashed 97.8%, resulting in a PLF of 15.6%.
Its regional subsidiary SilkAir registered a 99.2% YoY crash in passenger carriage against a 98.2% cut in capacity, with a PLF of 33.7%. The airline continued to operate flights to Cebu, Chongqing, Kuala Lumpur, Medan and Phnom Penh, and added Penang to the list of destinations served.
Scoot’s passenger carriage dropped 99.1% YoY against a contraction in capacity of 95.1%, which led to a PLF of 16.1%. Scoot now serves 18 destinations, reinstating flights to Manila and Tianjin, but its flights to West Asia and Europe remain suspended.
On the other hand, cargo load factor (CLF) was 23.7pp higher YoY as the capacity contraction of 57.8% YoY offset the 41.7% decline in cargo traffic. All route regions recorded YoY increases in CLF in October.
The group continues to progressively restore services and rebuild its networks. In addition to SIA launching non-stop services to New York, SIA and SilkAir will also reinstate flights to Brunei, Fukuoka, Male, and Shenzhen between November 2020 and January 2021, whilstScoot will add flights to Melbourne between November and December this year.
