Tiger Airways launches Singapore – Hong Kong flights
Inauguration of twice-daily flights on Feb. 1 was slated to welcome the Year of the Tiger.
"We are pleased to serve Hong Kong as our 33rd destination, and our fifth in Greater China, following Macau, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Haikou," Rosalynn Tay, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Singapore, said.
"It is especially meaningful for Tiger Airways to land in Hong Kong in time to welcome the Year of the Tiger. Our New Year gift to travelers between these two Asian Tigers is a low-fare revolution. Since we started selling tickets for this route, our competitive fares have forced other airlines to reduce theirs. As thrift is our virtue, we can continue to leap ahead and offer the most competitive fares," she said.
Today, it costs only about HKD445 or SGD129 to fly between Hong Kong and Singapore. Before Tiger Airways started selling tickets on this route, so-called budget air fares were much higher.
To serve its expanded network, Tiger Airways took delivery of its 18th aircraft last January, and expects another new one this month.
To celebrate Tiger Airways' inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Singapore, the first passenger was presented with a pair of return tickets between Hong Kong and Singapore. Ms Jehan Djody, the lucky passenger, was flying from Hong Kong to Singapore, and then to Jakarta on Tiger Airways. She said, "I often fly Tiger Airways because it offers the cheapest fares."
