Tiger Airways still fourth-best in Asia
Budget airline's on-time arrivals continue to rival top-ranked Japanese carriers.
With a 91.64% on-time arrival performance in September, Tiger Airways is one of only four carriers in Asia to breach the 90% level, together with J-Air (93.89%), IndiGo Airlines (93.01%) and Hokkaido International (91.67%).
The assessment was based on FlightStats' August 2012 Asian Carrier Arrival Performance report.
Tiger Airways only had 4.11% late flights or those arriving 15-29 minutes after schedule. It also had a minimal 2.12% very late flights (30-44 min. late) and 2.12% excessive late flights (more than 44 min. late) performance. Only 6 flights or 0.41% were cancelled with no divertions recorded for the month.
In comparison, Tiger Airways categorically performed better than its sibiling airline, the national carrier Singapore Airlines, which had the following performance metrics: On-time (80.57%), Late (12.06%), Very Late (4.14%), Excessively Late (3.21%) and Cancelled (0.39%).
Still, both carriers performed above the regional average. "The average on-time performance rating among the 38 Asian airlines we analyzed in August was 66.69%, nearly identical to July's 66.96%," said FlightStats.
