GIC-owned firm buys Hotel de Rome in Berlin
It used to house Dresdner Bank and the East German state bank.
Caleus Capital Partners, a real estate firm co-owned by sovereign wealth fund GIC with German investment company Caleus Capital, has purchased Berlin’s Hotel de Rome from Commerz Real for an undisclosed sum, an announcement revealed.
Located at the city’s central district, the 5-star hotel under the Rocco Forte brand had been part of Commerz Real open-ended real estate fund Hausinvest since 2007.
Erected in 1889 as the headquarters of Dresdner Bank, Hotel de Rome later accommodated the East German state bank and was fully renovated in 2006, with the original condition of the classical architecture retained.
It has a gross floor area of approximately 18,300 sqm, across 108 rooms and 37 suites, including a ballroom and spa area with a 20-metre pool.
