URA proposes rezoning of Geylang sites
It will be given a commercial zoning.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority today revealed its plan to rezone certain areas near Geylang to better manage issues arising from conflicting uses,
The area bounded by Geylang Road, Lorong 22 Geylang, Guillemard Road and Lorong 4 Geylang, excluding the parcels of land zoned Road, the lots fronting Geylang Road and the sports field bounded by Talma Road and Lorong 12 Geylang, will be given a new ‘Commercial/Institution’ zoning from its current ‘Residential/Institution’ zoning.
According to CBRE, the latest idea to rezone Geylang demonstrates the URA’s flexibility in reviewing planning parameters to cater to social needs.
“Converting the zone to commercial/ institutional use will allow more opportunities to leverage the current F&B, entertainment and retail offerings in the area. This might give rise to complementary spin-offs and eventually rejuvenate the precinct as a more commercially-focussed zone for various types of commercial tenants to flourish,” said Desmond Sim, Head, CBRE Research, Singapore and South East Asia.
Members of public can submit their feedback, objection or representation to the proposal in writing to the Ministry of National Development, until 11 February 2015.
