
Chart of the Day: Singaporean investors favoured office properties in 2019
It outsped industrial and logistics assets in investment value.
This chart from CBRE reveals that office properties were the most favoured asset type by Singapore-based investors in 2019, garnering $12.45b (US$9b) in deals. It is followed by industrial and logistics properties $1.94b (US$1.4b) and residential properties $1.8b (US$1.3b).
In comparison, industrial and logistics was the most popular asset type for Singaporean investors with deals totalling $11.07b (US$8b), followed by office and mixed-use projects.
“Whilst office assets have been typically favored by Singapore-based investors, it is observed that in 2019, there had been stronger interest among a select number of Singapore investors shifting to look for income-generating assets in alternative sectors such as student housing,”
Overall, Singapore topped Asian outbound real estate investment in 2019 at $20.91b (US$15b), albeit reflecting a 33% decline YoY from the $30.67b (US$22b) registered in 2018.
