Home Improvement Programme benefits HDB residents
Yishun Street 21 is the first Home Improvement Programme precinct in Singapore as part of the Remaking Our Heartland plan for Yishun town.
HIP was launched in July 2008 for Blocks 227 to 235, and Block 228 was the first HIP block completed a year later. Now the first precinct to be HIP-ed in Singapore was launched, transforming Yishun town into an even more vibrant community.
Minister for National Development Mr Mah Bow Tan said, "A survey of residents in this precinct last year showed that 99% were satisfied or very satisfied with HIP. Moving forward, more residents island-wide will benefit from the programme, with up to 14 precincts selected for HIP this year."
According to the Minister, HIP and the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme, or NRP, are part of a comprehensive effort to rejuvenate middle-aged and mature towns. "In this way, we raise the standard of living, and preserve the value of HDB flats as assets for our people," he added.
