Sentosa Development Corp unveils interactive sustainability showcase

This will be open until December 2024.

Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) has opened RISE, its new showcase that aims to educate visitors about sustainability efforts through interactive exhibits.

RISE, which stands for Rallying Island Sustainability Efforts, “aims to dissect and contextualise sustainability in tourism into bite-size nuggets of information," according to SDC CEO Thien Kwee Eng.

“Through enhancing awareness of the challenges and corresponding island-wise efforts of the business on the island, we hope to inspire our visitors to eat well, play well and travel well with a more sustainable footprint,” she added.

What visitors can see in the showcase are interactive exhibits, art installations, and an upcycling workshop that focus on the SDC’s initiatives implemented over the past three years. These include solarisation, recycling, electric vehicle adoption, farm-to-table practices, waste management and marine habitat conservation.

RISE also features contributions from the Sentosa Carbon Neutral Network (SCNN), which is a group of  island businesses aiming to reach carbon neutrality by 2030.

Since the launch of the Sustainable Sentosa strategic roadmap in 2021, the group, which includes integrated resorts, hotels, attractions and dining establishments, has been working on multiple initiatives including decarbonisation and disposables management.

Another highlight of the exhibition is the miniTrashLab. This is where guests can learn about the process of upcycling while experiencing hands-on customisation of their own upcycled sunglasses from plastic waste sourced from the island, including old Luge carts from Skyline Luge Singapore and kayaks from Lazarus Sea Sports Centre.

Priced at $59.90, the workshop is a collaboration between SDC and upcycling expert Miniwiz.

The exhibit is located at the Sentosa Beach Station and will be open until December this year.
