UOL Group's Gwee Lian Kheng retires as CEO
He started as financial controller and company secretary in 1973.
UOL Group said Gwee Lian Kheng, 77, will be retiring as group chief executive on 31 January 2019 after 45 years of service. Gwee will remain a board director.
Gwee joined the company as group financial controller and company secretary in 1973 and took over the helm in 1987 when he was promoted to be the executive director and general manager.
Under Gwee’s leadership, UOL Group grew its assets from $749m in 1987 to $20b as at 21 March 2018. UOL also diversified its portfolio to property development, property investments, and hospitality, across 12 countries.
“I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to serve so many years, indeed almost my entire career, in a company that has become a leading property player in Singapore,” Gwee said.
The board is currently identifying and reviewing internal and external candidates in its search for his successor.
