5 factors affecting Singaporeans' selection of employers

Young employees prioritise income the most.

Younger employees in Singapore will select an employer who offers them the best compensation, a joint study by  Reeracoen Singapore and Rakuten Insight has revealed.

According to the study, income is the highest priority amongst Gen Zs (43%) and millennials (43%).

Whilst income is still a priority for Gen Xers, the top factor affecting their decision when choosing an employer is work-life balance (46%).

Overall, however, work-life balance remains the top priority for most Singaporeans (42%), closely followed by income (41%).

Most of the respondents who chose work-life balance as their top priority were from industries like  “tourism, leisure, hospitality, F&B”, “human resources” and “publishing/ printing/ advertising/ broadcasting."

Other factors affecting their selection of employees are potential career growth (13%), learning opportunities (10%), and the company's public image (4%)

"In Singapore, Gen Zs are rethinking their approach to work, prioritising income over free time. This is in contrast to trends in other markets," said Reeracoen’s Group CEO, Mr Kenji Naito.
