Gen AI courses in high demand as Singapore enrollments soar 815%
Introduction to AI is amongst top courses sought by Singaporeans.
Generative AI (Gen AI) course enrollments in Singapore skyrocketed in 2024, rising 815% compared to the previous year, Coursera reported.
Courses that are particularly popular amongst Singaporeans in the platform are "Generative AI with Large Language Models" from AWS, "Introduction to Generative AI," from Google Cloud, and "Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT" from Vanderbilt University.
The surge in Gen AI enrollments extended beyond Singapore and was evident throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
In APAC, Gen AI course enrolments soared by 1,270 YoY.
"The steep increase in GenAI course enrollments isn’t just a reflection of learner interest. It demonstrates the efforts of businesses, governments, and higher education institutions to prepare AI-ready economies," Coursera said.
Apart from Gen AI enrollments, Singapore also saw an increase in professional certificate enrollments, up 57% YoY.
The top professional certificate courses sought by Singaporeans are Data Analytics, Project Management, and Cybersecurity from Google.
Meanwhile, Coursera also reported that most skills Singaporeans are pursuing are future-oriented, such as blockchain and machine learning.
"Singapore’s focus on future-oriented skills aligns with its strategy to maintain its position as a global learning hub," Coursera said.
"The SkillsFuture credits program reflects Singapore’s commitment to lifelong learning, ensuring the workforce remains adaptable and competitive," the platform added.
Singaporeans' keenness to learn future-oriented skills likely stems from the demand for roles such as Software Developer and Machine Learning Engineer.
