What are the top thriving job sectors in Singapore?
The top sector saw a 20% jump in job postings.
Job postings in Singapore fell 92% in 2023, falling 25% below its peak in October 2022.
Despite the decrease, Indeed underscored that postings in Singapore remain above pre-pandemic levels in every occupational category and double pre-pandemic levels in over a quarter (26%) of sectors.
The fastest-growing occupation categories for 2023 were childcare (+20%), security and public safety (+16%) and hospitality and tourism (+14.5%).
On the other hand, job postings in the dentistry (-39%), media and communications (-37%) and arts and entertainment (-37%) sectors declined last year.
Meanwhile, Indeed also found that Singapore creates more white-collar job opportunities, such as engineering, finance and technology jobs, when compared to other Asian economies.
“In Singapore, job creation tends to be more concentrated in software development, management and scientific research than in other Asian economies, such as Hong Kong, Malaysia and the Philippines,” Indeed reported.
“Despite software development job postings seeing a decline in 2023, Singapore job postings for this category still stand at 10% compared to just 6% in other Asian countries. For the tech sector the most prominent roles in the last four years in Singapore include, back end developers, data engineers and cloud engineers,” Indeed added.
AI-related jobs are also increasing in Singapore, with 7% of job postings mentioning artificial intelligence in the job descriptions.
Generative AI features in 0.3% of job postings, equating to one in every 350 postings.
“Whilst this number may seem relatively small, it's a rapidly growing number and much bigger than in other markets, three times higher than the US and more than four times higher than the United Kingdom. This number is expected to increase highlighting the growing use cases for artificial intelligence,” Indeed said.
