A third of Singaporeans fear automation will steal their jobs

35% of respondents believe that these technologies will be superior to humans when it comes to making complex decisions.

Nearly four in ten (38%) Singapore employees (38%) expressed fears that automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will eventually take over their jobs although more than two-thirds believe that it will enhance their work, according to a survey by management consulting firm Kelly Services.

Seven in ten (71%) of employees believe that their work efficiency will increase with automation and AI, whilst 62% expects these technologies to become superior to humans at simple tasks in the future.

However, 35% of respondents believe that these technologies will be superior to humans when it comes to making complex decisions – which Kelly noted as a, “display [of] less confidence in human competence over machines.”

Despite this, employees generally perceive automation and AI positively and welcome these innovations in the workplace, with respondents believing that automation and AI will increase their work efficiency and will make their jobs easier.

Additionally, 57% of respondents expressed certainty that AI and automation is needed in their company, whilst 58% are of the opinion that it will help to increase their company’s bottom line.
