40% of Singaporeans take first job offer they get, poll says
So much for loyalty, don't you think?
The poll, by Robert Walters, found that most professionals typically have one job offer while searching for a new job which they usually accept, with 35.1% or 11,050 respondents doing so. This was followed closely by 32.4% or 10,190 respondents receiving two job offers before moving on to their most recent role.
Methodology
The results included a total of 31,460 responses from visitors to our official Robert Walters websites around the world. The responses were collated between mid-January to early March this year, making it reflective of professionals’ current job sentiments.
A total of 19 countries were polled. Within Asia, countries included Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and Korea. The poll also included Luxembourg, Belgium, Brazil, South Africa, Switzerland, United States, Australia, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany and Ireland.
Findings
Most professionals are given one job offer in searching for a new role, which they usually accept. This is indicative of the cautiously optimistic approach for both employers as well as professionals seeking new jobs, particularly in today’s sentiment-driven job market.
Many organisations are currently careful in assessing global economic uncertainty as a factor in making headcount decisions. Consequently, professionals are aware of the current conservative climate in the job market and therefore are more likely to accept the first job offer they receive.
Question: Before accepting your last role, how many job offers did you receive?
