5 professions preferring a job change for career growth over pay rise

Almost 1 in 2 of employees rated opportunity for career progression as the most important factor when choosing a new role.

Michael Page International which conducted the survey said that the result was of particular importance to professionals in the banking and financial services,  legal and human resources areas.

From an experience perspective, midlevel employees identified the ability to progress their career as a key motivator to change roles, it said.

An increase in salary meanwhilewas the second  most influential factor for respondents  when deciding to change jobs. According to Michael Page, securing  a pay rise was of particular importance to  accounting and finance professionals. If business conditions continue to improve,  the pressure on employers to offer competitive salaries will increase.

Another leading factor in the decision to  change jobs is the opportunity to gain more seniority. Michael Page said that the prospect of gaining a  more senior title was particularly attractive  to professionals in the procurement and  supply chain industry.
