52% of unhappy Singapore workers will ditch their jobs
Because they just aren't happy anymore.
According to a recent survey by JobStreet, Singaporeans have often been accused as a bunch that love to complain about everything but a recent JobStreet.com survey on employee job satisfaction revealed that Singaporeans may be happier at work than they portray themselves to be.
Here's more from JobStreet:
Only 56% of respondents claimed that they were unhappy with their current jobs. This was below the 78% of disgruntled employees across the causeway in Malaysia.
While it is commonly perceived that the top reason Singaporeans job hop is due to unhappiness with their current drawn salaries, only 18% of unhappy employees quoted salary as the main contributor to their unhappiness at work.
Dissatisfaction with their scope of work was the top reason many felt unhappy at work. The common grievances amongst these unhappy employees were work being overloaded, limited in scope and unfulfilling.
The other factor contributing to unhappiness was poor relationship with colleagues and the immediate supervisor or boss. Many of the unhappiness stemmed from the feelings of being unappreciated.
The alarming fact is that 52% of unhappy employees said they would find another job to restore their happiness at work.
95% of Singaporeans are opened to consider new and better career opportunities, of which 86% expressed the intention to leave their current jobs within the next 3 years.
The survey also revealed a contradiction in terms of how Singaporeans valued money. While not the main contributor for happiness at work, better salary was the biggest motivator for 55% of jobseekers to consider leaving their current jobs for new opportunities.
A total of 1,012 employees took part in the survey that was conducted by JobStreet.com in October 2012.
