Chart of the Day: Check out the drop in layoffs in manufacturing sector

But it is still 20% up from a year ago.

Singapore's manufacturing sector employment has remained lacklustre in the previous quarter as total employment sink further to 3,700 compared to 3,400 in the preceding quarter.

However, according to the Ministry of Manpower, one silver lining is the decreasing number of redundancies, which is now on its 3rd consecutive quarter of decline after it spiked to 2,480 in the last quarter of 2015.

For 3Q16, layoffs were reduced to 1,100, over 20% lower than 2Q16's 1,380. It is important to note, however, that it is still up from a year ago, where redundancies were at a low 920.
