Chart of the Day: Guess how long Singaporean workers go overtime per week

Regular paid hours averaged 46.2.

According to the latest report by MoM, total weekly paid hours worked per employee averaged 46.2 hours in March 2013, largely unchanged since September 2009, after rising from the trough of 45.6 hours in March 2009.

The trend broadly mirrored that of the weekly paid overtime hours which averaged 3.7 hours in March 2013, down marginally from 3.8 hours in September and December 2012, though the same as a year ago.

Employees in construction and manufacturing clocked longer paid hours per week at 53.0 and 50.2, mainly pulled up by their longer paid overtime of 8.3 and 7.1 hours respectively.

Services employees averaged shorter paid working hours at 43.4, mainly reflecting lower paid overtime of 1.7 hours. Within services, security & investigation still clocked in longer paid hours (total: 51.6, overtime: 8.0), but this represented a drop from a year ago (total: 58.2, overtime: 14.5) mainly reflecting shorter paid overtime.
