Chart of the Day: Services sector headcounts rose to 53,700 in 2019

These slowed down to 13,300 in Q4 despite boosts in retail and F&B sectors from festive hiring.

This chart from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) shows that the employment growth in the services sector in 2019 hit 53,700, slightly lower compared to last year, based on preliminary data.

In Q4, employment level in the sector also slowed to 13,300, despite the boosts in the food and beverage services and retail trade from festive hiring. Still, the sector contributed to the bulk of the overall employment growth.

The total employment in the city grew by 55,200 for the whole year, but its growth slowed to 16,600 in Q4.
