Chart of the Day: Weekly paid hours edged up to 44.8 in September

Jobs under security and investigation saw the highest rise in hours spent.

This chart from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) reveals that the average total weekly paid hours spent per employee inched up from 44.7 hours in June to 44.8 in September. On a YoY basis, however, average hours worked declined from 44.9.

The security and investigation sector posted the highest rise in hours worked to 51.7 from 51 hours over the year, whilst notable declines were observed in transportation and storage (from 45.5 to 44.9) as well as manufacturing (from 48.5 to 48.1).

In June, the average weekly usual hours worked amongst employed residents declined for the ninth successive year to 42.9 hours in June, from 43 hours in the previous year.
