Half of small business leaders eye hiring fewer people due to AI

Three in 10 said there will be no changes in their workforce count.

Over half (54%) of 500 small business leaders revealed they plan to reduce headcount in their workforce in the next three years because of AI, a Xero survey showed. 

The other half which is 33% said their hiring will stay the same, the study also revealed.

The Xero research also indicated that an average small business leader seeks 40% of their business software/systems will use AI in the next three years.

As AI becomes more integral and integrated in the workplace, almost half of small businesses feel that employee training is necessary, such as:

48% working with AI to increase productivity
47% general understanding of AI types and potential impact on the business and industry 
46% - responsible use of AI, on company policies, ethical considerations and potential risks
