Hybrid work could save Singaporeans $3,900 in commuting costs

Globally, 84% say reduced commutes improve work-life balance and activities.

Working closer to home just two days a week can help Singaporeans save about $3,900 or US$3,000 annually on commuting expenses, data from the International Workplace Group (IWG) revealed.

IWG said Singaporean workers can benefit from cost savings with the hybrid work model, taking advantage of the country’s economical public transportation.

"Despite 2023’s fare hike, Singapore’s public transport prices remain comparable or lower than that of other global cities like Paris and London," IWG said.

"Singapore was also ranked within the top ten countries with the best public transport system globally, and second best in Asia," IWG added.

Globally, IWG found that cutting down on long commutes positively affects 84% of workers' work-life balance, allowing them more time for personal activities.
