Manpower minister wants business transformation as JTM for retail sector launches
The creation of a map came after the growing economic changes in the industry.
Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng said firms in the retail industry should rapidly transform their businesses and workforce as the new joint transformation map provides insights on job technologies and trends.
The map contains how retailers can redesign job roles to back business growth whilst meeting the needs and expectations of the employees.
It also includes “critical skill sets and skills levels for each role will be clearly identified for the easy reference of employers, HR managers and jobseekers.”
One anecdote is the role of sales associate, which can be redesigned to manage both online and offline channels amidst the rise of omnichannel retail strategy.
“Companies can refer to the Retail JTM to understand the key skills required for these new roles,” said Tan.
Likewise, the minister said firms can tap on WSG’s Career Conversion Programme (CCP) or SSG’s SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP), just like Commune Lifestyle has done, to use these initiatives to reskill existing workers, uplift existing job roles, or recruit mid-career individuals to take on these redesigned or newly emerging roles.
