MOE to remove Mobile Guardian app following cyber breach

13,000 students’ applications and stored information were wiped out remotely.

MOE will remove the Mobile Guardian app from all iPads and Chromebooks after alerts of students being unable to access the app.

Based on Mobile Guardian’s preliminary checks, the incident, which happened on 4 August, led to 13,000 students from 26 secondary schools having their devices wiped remotely by an unnamed hacker.

There is currently no evidence that the perpetrator had accessed user files.

The MOE said efforts are underway to safely restore devices and they will deploy additional IT roving teams to schools.
