MoM keeps an eye on 38 firms for failure to hire locals fairly

They’ve been placed on the watchlist.

The Ministry of Manpower is keeping closer tabs on 38 firms for their weak Singaporean Core and their flagging commitment to hiring and developing locals fairly.

Dubbed as “Double Weak” firms, Minister for Manpower Lim Swee Say noted in a blog post that these companies will be subject to stricter hiring standards.

“Being placed on the watchlist means that MOM will scrutinise their EP applications more closely. They will be asked to provide additional details, such as the number of Singaporeans who applied and were interviewed for the posts, and whether their existing Singaporean employees have been considered,” Lim noted.

Apart from the 38 companies, the MoM has also identified about 100 more firms for ‘further engagement’.

The companies belong to industries such as Admin & Support, Construction, Infocomm, Finance & Insurance, Professional Services, Transport & Storage and Wholesale Trade.
