MOM renews partnership with global labour group to promote workers’ health

The cooperation will promote decent work in ASEAN.

Workers’ safety, health, and well-being are the key points of improvement for Singapore’s ministry of manpower (MOM) as it renews its partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to promote decent work in Southeast Asia.

According to a release by the MOM, the agreement entails the two labour bodies to work together on activities related to occupational safety and health, tripartism and social dialogue.

“The activities proposed include preparation and development of statistics and new data collection methods for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), a regional workshop on OSH and social dialogue, and the organisation of the XXI World Congress on Safety, currently scheduled to be held in September 2017 in Singapore,” MOM said.

According to Aubeck Kam, permanent secretary of the MOM, the renewal of the partnership reflects Singapore’s commitment to improve labour and workplace practices in the Southeast Asian region.

The agreement between the ILO and the MOM was first signed in 2011 and was first renewed in 2014.
