Non-residents boost employment figures in H122

There were 95,400 non-residents employed during the first half.

Total employment, excluding migrant domestic workers, continued to expand in the first half of the year with 108,500 new hires.

The employment record as of June was already 99.5% of the level in December 2019.

The Ministry of Manpower said the increase in employment was mainly contributed by non-residents, particularly in the Construction and Manufacturing sectors.

Of the total new hires, 95,400 were non-residents.
“Employers backfilled positions following the significant relaxation of border controls in April 2022,” the MOM commented.

Non-resident employment also rose across all pass types, said the MOM.

Of the new hires, 80,900 have work permits and other work passes, 7,400 were S Pass holders, and 7,100 had an employment pass (EP).

In the same period, resident employment also grew steadily, increasing by 13,100.

The Financial & Insurance Services, Information & Communications and Professional Services sectors saw the largest increases in resident employment.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate remained at 2.1% in July.
