Sales and marketing jobs in high demand in Singapore: report
Sectors hit hard by COVID going on post-pandemic hiring sprees.
Singaporean recruiters tagged sales as the most in-demand role, making up 8% of all resume searches on Indeed, based on data from the job website.
Marketing roles were the second most searched resumes at 1.7% as recruiters are always on the lookout to fill these critical positions because of high turnover rates, a common challenge faced by the industry, according to Indeed.
“Analysing resume search results on Indeed can indicate which sectors are experiencing difficulty in hiring and which ones may be facing skill and labour shortages,” the report said. “While open job listings posted by employers offer a glimpse into roles in demand, resume search data provides unique insight into recruitment urgency and can identify pain points experienced by recruiters.”
Indeed data also showed how resume search trends evolved in the post-pandemic era.
Hospitality and food and beverage businesses, which were hit hard by the pandemic, experienced a hiring boom when restrictions eased, with stand-out search terms being ‘chef’ and ‘cook’ (1.1%), ‘events’ (1%) and ‘barista’ (0.7%).
The retail sector had 2% of resume searches on the site which, similar to F&B, went on a hiring spree after being heavily impacted by the pandemic to combat labour shortages.
Customer service-related queries made up 1.6% of searches, indicating employers’ difficulties in filling positions according to the report.
"As the labour shortage winds down, Singaporean recruiters are finding themselves in a fierce competition for talent,” Callam Pickering, APAC senior economist at Indeed, said. “This suggests that employers in industries like sales, retail, marketing, customer service, and F&B may need to offer more attractive compensation packages to attract workers.”
