Sorry for party rocking: 54% of vacationers feel guilty leaving tasks with co-workers

The majority of Singaporean working adults let work contact them while they're on vacation.

Online travel portal Expedia, in its 2022 Vacation Deprivation Study Online, found that 54% said they felt guilty for having their co-workers cover their shift on vacation and 48% felt the need to apologise for taking time out for planned vacations.

Despite having supportive employers during vacation time, 80% of Singaporean working adults leave their contacts in their out-of-office e-mails or their co-workers or clients whilst on vacation.

Expedia said these findings point to developing a potentially unhealthy vacation culture where Singaporeans do not get the time-off they deserve to recharge during leisure travel.

About 94% of the respondents said they value vacation time more than ever before whilst 97% said taking regular vacations is important for general health and well-being.

A total of 14,544 people from 16 countries across North and South America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific were surveyed in the study.
