Unemployment rates return to pre-pandemic levels

In 2022, the overall unemployment rate was 2.1%.

Singapore's overall unemployment rate for 2022 was 2.1%, advanced estimates by the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) showed.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for residents was 2.9% and 3.0% for citizens.

Pre-pandemic, the average unemployment rates were 2.2% overall, 3.0% for residents, and 3.2% for citizens.

"Unemployment rates have returned to pre-pandemic levels," the MoM said.

Compared to 2021, the unemployment rates were also "significantly lower," said the MoM.

In 2021, the unemployment rates were 2.7% overall, 3.5% for residents, and 3.7% for citizens.

MoM said that whilst the "labour market saw robust growth in 2022 and labour demand remains strong, the uncertain global economic environment, higher inflation, as well as geopolitical tensions will weigh on the labour market going forward."
