German Evonik breaks ground for new chemical plant in Singapore
It will create 150 more jobs in the area.
Seeing the success of its first plant on Jurong Island, German chemical producer Evonik Industries decided to break ground for a second plant to double the production capacity of the amino acid DL methionine in Singapore.
The $762 million worth complex will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 metric tons and is expected to become operational in 2019.
According to Executive board of Evonik Industries chairperson Klaus Engel, the group sells DL-methionine under the brand name MetAMINO.
"The demand for MetAMINO® for animal nutrition is continuing to grow at a very fast rate in Asia. The new plant will not only produce methionine, but also all strategically important precursors to guarantee product quality and supply security," he said.
Meanwhile, Evonik Nutrition & Care Board of Management chairperson Reiner Beste noted that the new complex will create additional 150 jobs in the location.
"Singapore has proven an ideal location for supplying our Asian customers. We are pleased to have such qualified personnel available to us in this country," he said.
