Banned! 80 stop-sale advisories issued

The government ran a test on 550 products to date to address safety concerns on consumer goods.

In a news release, SPRING Singapore reported that since the Consumer Protection Regulations were introduced in April 2011, SPRING Singapore has received 400 enquiries on consumer products and investigated about 20 cases to proactively address safety concerns.

To date, 550 products, mainly toys, have been tested, 90 spot-checks were conducted and 80 stop-sale advisories have been issued to suppliers and retailers.

A working group formed by SPRING Singapore, Consumers Association of Singapore, Singapore Toys & Confectionery Dealers' Association, Federation of Merchants' Associations, Singapore and Singapore Retailers' Association has also found that more suppliers are proactively ensuring the safety of consumer goods, and public awareness about product safety has also been raised.
