IBM to shut down Tampines plant amidst global restructuring
All of its workers will be retrenched.
IBM will close its manufacturing plant, IBM Z, in Tampines and relocate to Poughkeepsie, New York, USA.
Local media report that all workers will be retrenched following the shutdown. “We are providing an equitable separation package to impacted employees,” an IBM spokesperson said.
According to the firm, the closure of the plant is part of its global restructuring. “Singapore will remain a strategic location for IBM, including management, cloud, software, blockchain, Watson and services organizations,” the spokesperson added.
Singapore also serves as the headquarters of IBM’s Asia Pacific operations, its IBM Cloud Data Centre, and its Integrated Supply Chain Manufacturing Centre.
