Manufacturing output rises 3.4% YoY in March
The increase was due to the output growth in four of the six clusters.
The manufacturing output grew 3.4% YoY in March, data from EDB Singapore showed.
Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew by 9.7% YoY. Biomedical manufacturing posted the biggest decline amongst manufacturing clusters at 26.3%, followed by precision engineering which dropped by 1.4%.
Data from EDB Singapore showed that biomedical manufacturing was dragged by the contraction in its medical technology segment by 7.1% and pharmaceuticals segment.
On the other hand, the rest of the cluster posted output growth for the month, led by transport engineering which posted a 20.7% increase, followed by electronics (14.5%), general manufacturing (10.2%), and chemicals (0.8%).
Transport generic was carried by the growth in the aerospace segment whose output rose 39.3% on the back of higher production of aircraft parts and more maintenance, repair, and overhaul jobs from commercial airlines
Meanwhile, electronics and general manufacturing clusters were buoyed by output growth in all of their respective segments.
