Singapore manufacturing output up 15.6% YoY in December 2021
Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew by 5%.
Lion City’s manufacturing output saw a 15.6% year-on-year (YoY) increase in December 2021, according to statistics released by the Economic Development Board Singapore.
Without taking into account biomedical manufacturing, output grew by 5% YoY.
Month-on-month, manufacturing output grew by 4.3% in December 2021.
All clusters reported growth except the electronic cluster, which slid by 2.9% due to a high production base.
Biomedical manufacturing had the biggest growth at 87.7%, with the pharmaceuticals segment recording a 162.3% expansion from a low production base. The medical technology segment, however, declined by 3.4% due to lower export demand for medical devices.
Transport engineering, meanwhile, increased by 40.8% YoY in December 2021. The aerospace segment also echoed this growth with 58.9% due to higher demand for maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities, whilst the marine and offshore rose by 49.8%, owing to a higher level of work done in shipbuilding and repairing activities.
Other clusters to report growth include precision engineering, general manufacturing, and chemicals, with growths 16.4%, 7.7%, and 1.2%.
