
Singapore's manufacturing output jumped 9.3% in September
Here's how each segment fared.
According to a release, on a year-on-year basis, Singapore’s manufacturing output grew 9.3% in September 2013.
Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output increased 11.3%.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, manufacturing output rose 3.7% in September 2013. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew 5.8%.
On a three-month moving average basis, manufacturing output rose 5.5% in September 2013, compared to a year ago.
Output of the electronics cluster grew 20.0% in September 2013, compared to the same period a year ago. Growth was driven by the computer peripherals (75.6%), other electronic modules & components (22.1%) and semiconductors (19.3%) segments, on the back of improved export demand.
Output of the transport engineering cluster increased 14.4% year-on-year in September 2013. The marine & offshore engineering segment led growth with a 17.7% increase in output, supported by higher contributions from the rig building and ship building industries.
The chemicals cluster’s output rose 5.8% year-on-year in September 2013, with all segments recording output growth. Supported by strong regional demand, the other chemicals and specialties segments rose 11.1% and 6.5%, respectively.
The general manufacturing cluster’s output increased 2.0% in September 2013, compared to a year ago. The miscellaneous industries segment grew 7.5%, on account of higher output in metal tanks & containers, as well as construction supplies such as concrete & cement products, and metal doors, windows, grilles & gratings.
Output of the biomedical manufacturing cluster grew 0.1% in September 2013 on a year-on-year basis. Pharmaceuticals output increased 0.8%, but this was partly offset by the 3.2% decline in the medical technology segment.
Output of the precision engineering cluster fell 0.8% year-on-year in September 2013. The precision modules & components segment grew 6.0%, supported by higher output in industrial & mechanical rubber goods, and dies, moulds, jigs & fixtures.
